New Delhi, Jul 16 (PTI) A 27-year-old man was arrested for allegedly trying to attack his former fiancée with a knife in Central Delhi’s Paharganj area, officials said on Wednesday.
Police said that timely action by the beat staff helped avert a horrific crime.
The accused, identified as Karan, from Paharganj, forcibly entered her workplace in Krishna Market on Tuesday night.
“He threatened her and attempted to assault her after she refused to reconcile their broken engagement,” Deputy Commissioner of Police (Central) Nidhan Valsan said in a statement.
A police team, which was patrolling the area at the time, witnessed the accused shouting and issuing threats before intervening.
“The two officers, with the help of locals, overpowered Karan before he could cause any harm. Another team joined them at the spot. A knife was recovered from the possession of the accused,” Valsan said.
Upon inquiry, the woman stated that Karan had been harassing and stalking her since she ended the engagement with him about six months ago.
A case was registered and the accused was arrested late on Tuesday night, said the DCP, adding that further investigation is underway. PTI BM ANM BM ANM AMJ AMJ
