Maharashtra records highest Covid cases in 4 months, Mumbai sees 42% jump in 24 hours

On 28 May, for the first time in state, 4 patients of B.A.4 sub-lineage and 3 cases of B.A.5 sub-lineage of the Omicron variant were found.

New Delhi: Maharashtra recorded 2,701 fresh COVID cases on Wednesday, the highest in nearly four months.

Capital Mumbai saw 1,765 new cases, a jump of 42 per cent in 24 hours. Tuesday’s numbers in the city were 1,242. The corresponding number for the whole state was 1,881.

On 28 May, for the first time in Maharashtra, four patients of B.A.4 sub-lineage and three cases of B.A.5 sub-lineage of the Omicron variant were found.

The daily coronavirus infections in India were recorded above 5,000, taking the total COVID tally to 43,190,282, while the active cases rose to 28,857, according to the Union Health Ministry data updated on Wednesday.

The active cases comprise 0.07 per cent of the total infections, while the national COVID recovery rate was 98.72 per cent, the ministry said.
