Mumbai: In a bid to attract strategic investment into the state, the Maharashtra government Wednesday signed 12 Memorandum of Understanding (MOUs) worth Rs 5,051 crore, which will lead to generation of 9,000 jobs, a press release said.

The MOUs were signed during the 8th edition of the ongoing Magnetic Maharashtra 2.0. In the past two years of Magnetic Maharashtra, the government has attracted investments worth Rs 1.88 lakh crore and has signed 96 MOUs in this period. This has led to creation of a platform for more than 3.34 lakh jobs, according to the press release.

The signing of the MOUs comes days after the recent Dubai Expo, where Maharashtra had inked 26 MOUs reigning in investment of more than 15,000 crores, which can potentially create 10,000 jobs. It is to be noted that Maharashtra government attracted the largest share of FDI between 2020 to 202, and contributes about 15 per cent of India’s industrial output.

“The MoUs  signed today will potentially generate more than 9000 jobs in the state. The investment intentions signed are spread across the state in various districts, which are in line with the Government’s objective of equitable development.  Furthermore, the investments also include strategic sectors such as Aerospace & Defence, IT & ITES, Bio-fuels, Automobiles etc,” a press release by the Maharashtra government read.

“Maharashtra has been at the forefront of industrial development in the country for decades. The state has developed its infrastructure rapidly and industrial investments have been flowing in the state even during the pandemic, due to Maharashtra’s proactive policymaking and progressive vision,” the press release further read.

Industry Minister Subhash Desai was quoted as saying that the government must build up on this momentum and strengthen employment opportunities. “Under the guidance of Hon. Chief Minister Shri Uddhav Thackerayji, the Magnetic Maharashtra 2.0 initiative has been a resounding success, garnering investments of  INR 1.88 lac crores and creating a platform for more than 3.34 lac jobs. It is imperative that we carry the tremendous momentum we have been able to achieve and multiply our efforts to strengthen employment opportunities via strategic investments in the state,” he said.
