Mumbai, Jul 19 (PTI) Four members of a family drowned at the Aare-Ware beach in Maharashtra’s Ratnagiri district on Saturday evening, police said.

The incident occurred around 6 pm, an official said.

The deceased were identified as Junaid Bashir Kazi (36), his wife Zainab (28), residents of Oswal Nagar, Ratnagiri; and their relatives Uzma Shamshuddin Kazi (18) and Umera Shamshuddin Shaikh (20) who lived in Mumbra in Thane district.

While standing in the water, they were swept away by a big tide, the official said.

Other tourists saw them drowning but could not help them because of the rough sea.
