New Delhi: Army veteran Lt Gen. K.J. Singh (retd) Monday got into a Twitter spat with a user identifying himself as “veteran jawan”, who alleged that Singh had treated jawans as “slaves” and kept a platoon at his home for performing household chores while he was in service.

Singh, a former Western Army Commander, was recently made a state information commissioner by the Haryana government.

The handle, @OROP_for_JAWANS, further alleged that Singh did not check the downgrade of jawans during successive pay commissions while he was in service and also faced a CBI inquiry on serious charges.

Singh refuted the allegations, saying that he never had a platoon, and that he was actually most frugal in his approach.

“I never had platoon & in one secret audit created by my Corps Cdr, I was found 2 b most frugal in running flag staff house. Don’t really need ur certification as I still care & work 4 Jawans. Jai Hind (sic),” he tweeted.

Singh further said that as an advisor to the Haryana government, he had got the government to accept junior commissioned officers as Grade 2 and gazetted officers and overcame opposition to do so.

“Martyr JCO’s daughter became BDO first time. My Dharma, I work 4 men. U seem 2 follow- destroy officers reputation. Even this thread started on logic & policy. U made it personal. Reduce toxicity(sic),” Singh wrote.

ThePrint tried to contact Lt Gen. Singh through calls and messages, but all he said was he’s “away on family holiday”.

The person behind the Twitter handle later identified himself to ThePrint as veteran junior warrant officer (Indian Air Force) Nalin Talwar, national spokesperson of the Saabka Sainik Sangharsh Committee, an organisation fighting for soldiers’ rights.

Asked why he chose to be anonymous on Twitter, Talwar said it is because the handle was created to fight for one rank, one pension for jawans as “no one cared or spoke about them”.

  1. In Csd canteens: have seen that priority was given to officer’s… Why ?
Who has advised to setup seperate and rank wise counters for armed forces personnel. If any govt. notification than share for public awareness.
Special counters should be made for senior citizens + medically disabled veteran+ war hero + war widows and ladies only.

    Jai Hind

  2. It’s a common practice for General officers to retain a retinue of Jawans for personal use even after retirement. So if as Army Commander he had a platoon it’s officially done. In fact it’ll be much more… a Company + .

  3. These AF rankers are forever belly aching… even in service. Wonder from where he got details of an Army Generan.

  4. Sir what ever remarks was made by Air Force retired jwo against army officer is not good but lot of the points which need to be sorted out. A Jawan while on service had full faith on his officer to look after his welfares and always ready to act himself to secrify for the nation on an officers order. But after retire from service in early age many jcos and ors are getting security gaurds duty on minimum pay .who is responsible for that? Those Jawan should be got dignified job .but working such a condition. Not only this even on military service pay Jawan and jco are getting only rupees 5200 pm. In armed forces there are officers , jco and ors catagories but jcos are also getting rupees 5200pm only ,for this who is responsible to look the matters of jco and ors . Why many genuine demands of jcos, ors are not sorted out ,Jawan are looking towards courts. These types of the problems can be sorted by our seniors.

  5. Extremely poor attempt by a retired air Force jwo just to score some browny points and paint officer community in bad light..he doesn’t even know how the army works and want to comment on a decorated officer remaining anonymous. It shows his sick mentality..if he wants to bring out an issue pls support by facts and figures
