New Delhi: A 36-year-old woman claimed she attacked her live-in partner and tried to chop off his genitals after she caught him “trying to rape” her minor daughter in Uttar Pradesh’s Lakhimpur Kheri Wednesday.
Sanjeev Suman, superintendent of police (SP), Lakhimpur Kheri, told ThePrint that an FIR was registered the same day against the woman’s partner, who was booked under section 376 (rape) of the IPC and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, 2012.
Asked about the minor’s condition, the SP said: “She is doing well. The mother walked in in the nick of time. No case has been registered against the woman.”
The accused is currently undergoing treatment at a Lucknow hospital. “He is stable and recovering,” said a senior police officer, not wanting to be named.
Speaking to ThePrint, the woman said that her partner wouldn’t be home most of the time and would come and go as he pleased.
“I am a single mother with two young children. My son is only 7 years old and my daughter is 14. I really trusted this man,” she said, adding: “Men gawk at us. If someone tries to rape my daughter or anyone’s daughter or any woman, I will do it again to stop him and teach him a lesson. Some people in the society are shaming us now.”
‘My daughter was screaming for help’
According to the police, the woman, who works as a guard in a local nursery school, walked in on her partner allegedly trying to force himself on her 14-year-old daughter. The accused had allegedly pinned down the girl, and the woman is believed to have first tried to push the man away, and on failing to do so, attacked him with a knife and tried to cut off his genitals.
“My daughter was screaming for help when he had pinned her down. I tried to remove him, he hit me with a stick and I too hit him back but couldn’t fight him alone, so I picked up a knife,” the woman told ThePrint.
The woman and the accused allegedly started living together around two years ago. “He doesn’t do any work. He is an alcoholic and relies on the woman for food and other necessities,” the senior police officer quoted earlier said.
