New Delhi: The Central government on Monday handed over investigation into the brutal murder of an Udaipur tailor to the counter-terrorist task force, the National Investigation Agency (NIA).

The Home Ministry said the involvement of any “organisation and international links” would be thoroughly investigated.

Tailor Kanhaiya Lal Teli was killed on camera on Tuesday for putting up social media posts in support of suspended BJP spokesperson Nupur Sharma. Sharma had made controversial comments about the Prophet on television. The video of the murder went viral.

The two accused in the murder have been arrested from the Rajsamand area in Rajasthan.

Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot has called for a meeting Wednesday to review the law and order situation in the state.

Internet services have been temporarily suspended for the next 24 hours in all districts of Rajasthan.

Gehlot said Tuesday: “It is a sad and shameful incident. There is a tense atmosphere in the nation today. Why doesn’t the Prime Minister and Amit Shah address the nation? There is tension among people. The PM should address the public and say such violence won’t be tolerated. He should appeal for peace.”

Gehlot added what had happened was “beyond one’s imagination”.

In the video, the accused boasted about the murder and apparently also threatened Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s life.

Meanwhile, Kanhaiya Lal’s body was brought to his home in Udaipur on Wednesday.
