Mumbai, Jul 17 (PTI) The Maharashtra Highway Police have instructed their counterparts in the traffic department not to use personal mobile phones to click photos of vehicles flouting traffic rules, amid concerns being raised over pictures not being uploaded real time and leading to wrong challans, officials said.
These concerns were raised during a meeting of various transport associations held with Transport Minister Pratap Sarnaik at the Vidhan Bhawan, which took place on July 2, an official said.
During the meeting, the office-bearers of transport associations raised an issue about the traffic police officials using personal mobile phones to click the photos of vehicles and uploading them in the e-challan machine as per their convenience, he said.
Their grievance was that since photos are not uploaded in real time, it leads to issuance of wrong challans to the vehicle owners, causing discrepancies, he said.
The minister expressed his displeasure over such actions in the meeting, he said.
The highway police have taken serious cognisance of the meeting and issued instructions to the traffic police personnel about not clicking photos of the vehicles or violating the traffic-related norms from personal mobile phones, he said.
Accordingly, the instructions were issued by Pravin Salunkhe, Additional Director General of Police, Highway Police, asking all police commissioners and superintendent of police (SPs) for disciplinary action against the police officials found indulging in such practices.
The highway police department had issued similar instructions in this regard twice earlier, the official said. PTI DC NP
