Panaji, Mar 27 (PTI) Goa Legislative Assembly Speaker Ramesh Tawadkar on Monday declined to entertain a motion to congratulate Congress leader Rahul Gandhi for successfully completing his Bharat Jodo Yatra.

The motion was moved by Leader of Opposition Yuri Alemao of the Congress on the first day of the budget session of the Assembly.

“Is it a crime to spread love and unity in the country?” Alemao asked while speaking about Gandhi’s Kanniyakumari to Kashmir foot march.

The Opposition MLA said it should be appreciated that the former Congress president walked for nearly 4,000 kilometres during the 145-day-long mass contact programme which concluded in Kashmir on January 30.

Responding to him, Speaker Tawadkar said he does not think the congratulatory motion should be admitted.

“I don’t think it should be taken up (for consideration). It (motion) may be important for you because he (Gandhi) is from your party. But it is not important for me,” the Speaker said while disallowing the motion. PTI RPS RSY RSY
