Udhagamandalam, May 20 (PTI) A 40-year-old female elephant was electrocuted, when its trunk came into contact with a low hanging electricity live wire, while eating leaves from a tree in the hilly Nilgiris district on Friday.

A herd of elephants was grazing near a private estate in Devarshola in Gudalur and the female elephant suddenly raised its head and tried to eat leaves from a tree, police said.

As the live wire was so low, the trunk of the elephant came into contact and got electrocuted, they said.

Forest and Electricity departments in Gudalur are inquiring into the incident, they said. PTI COR NVM KH KH KH
