Mumbai, Jul 18 (PTI) Leader of Opposition in the Maharashtra Legislative Council Ambadas Danve on Friday accused the BJP-led Mahayuti government of avoiding debate on the real issues faced by the people during the monsoon session of the legislature.

“The public debt has risen from Rs 9.12 lakh crore to over Rs 10 lakh crore. Instead of responding to critical issues raised in the concluding week of the session, the ruling side diverted the debate by raising unrelated topics, clearly avoiding the real problems faced by the people,” Danve said at a press conference after the session ended.

Describing the Mahayuti coalition government as anti-people, he criticised it for inaction on key matters. “Despite major instances of fake seeds sale being reported, no new law has been brought in. Several ministers appeared to be simply passing time,” the Sena (UBT) leader said. As Leader of Opposition, he raised numerous issues including those of Mumbai’s textile mill workers, teachers, law and order, corruption, and the scholarship ID scam, Danve said.

“We demanded answers on the Shaktipeeth highway project, imposition of Hindi, and the Megha Engineering matter, but the government refused to respond,” he said.

This was Danve’s last session as member of the upper house as his term ends in August.

“The ruling MLAs have gone as far as labelling Warkaris (devotees of Lord Vitthala) as Naxalites. Funds under the Jal Jeevan Mission are yet to be disbursed. Now, 328 new liquor permits are being issued,” he further said.

Danve also claimed that several ministers were disillusioned, saying, “As the chief minister has concentrated powers in his own hands, the ministers are left powerless and are now in despair.” He accused the government of reckless spending under various schemes, and raised concerns about the implementation of the ‘Ladki Bahin’ scheme. “Despite promises, very few women have benefitted from it. The government is misusing public funds in the name of welfare,” he said.

Legislators of the ruling alliance were busy “performing aarti” of chief minister Devendra Fadnavis to please him, Danve said, adding that when the state is facing an agricultural crisis due to failed sowing, in some cases even after a second round, they delivered political speeches.

“This government is entangled in contracts, loot, commissions, and contractor lobbies,” Danve added. PTI ND KRK
