Chandigarh, May 23 (PTI) Eight former MLAs on Monday joined the Congress in the presence of former Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda here.

Hooda along with Haryana Congress chief Udai Bhan welcomed the ex-legislators into the party fold.

On this occasion, Rajya Sabha MP Deepender Hooda was also present.

The former legislators who joined the Congress were Sharda Rathore, Ram Niwas Ghorela, Naresh Selwal, Parminder Singh Dhull, Zile Ram Sharma, Rakesh Kamboj, Rajkumar Valmiki and Subhash Chaudhary, the Haryana Congress said in a statement.

Hooda assured them of full respect and honour in the party.

He said such a large number of leaders joining together is reflective of the people’s sentiments.

“It is clear from this development that the public sentiments are with the Congress. The Congress is getting a strong response from the public as it is the only option for the future. The party is on a comeback,” said the leader of opposition in the Haryana assembly.

Udai Bhan said the leaders who joined the Congress represent different classes and communities.

“This development is giving a clear indication that all sections are with the Congress. Their joining will give more strength to the party. Now everyone will work together to take the organisation forward,” he said.

Sharda Rathore had remained MLA from Ballabhgarh seat in Faridabad. She left the Congress party and joined the BJP in August 2019.

Ram Niwas Ghorela is a former MLA from Barwala while Naresh Selwal is an ex-MLA from Uklana (reserved).

Parminder Singh Dhull remained MLA twice on the INLD ticket from the Julana seat. However, he lost in the 2019 assembly polls after he contested on the BJP ticket.

Zile Ram Sharma is a former Congress MLA from Assandh seat of Karnal district while Rakesh Kamboj is a former Congress MLA from Indri seat. PTI CHS VSD RAX RAX
