Thane, Jul 19 (PTI) Maharashtra deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde on Saturday launched `Upa-Mukhyamantri Nirogi Mahila Abhiyan’, a campaign to promote women’s health, here.

The campaign aims at early detection and prevention of diseases such as cervical and breast cancer through large-scale screening.

The three-month-long initiative aims to screen over five lakh women across Maharashtra with a focus on detecting cervical cancer, the second-most common cancer among women worldwide.

The initiative is being implemented jointly by the Thane Municipal Corporation, Rotary Club and the Aditya Birla Capital Foundation.

“It is our duty to keep our sisters healthy,” Shinde said on this occasion. PTI COR KRK
