New Delhi: Khajan Singh, the Chief Sports Officer (CSO) of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), was acquitted by a Delhi court in an alleged rape case filed by a female constable, after she claimed to have levelled the allegations in a “fit of anger”.

The 30-year-old woman constable had alleged that Khajan Singh and CRPF’s wrestling coach, Inspector Sarjit Singh had asked her for sexual favours and raped her on several occasions.

However, she retracted the allegations while recording her statement before the magistrate.

The woman had accused Khajan and Sarjit of running a “sex scandal”. She also accused the two of rape, sexual harassment and intimidation.

“From the testimony of the prosecutrix, it is evident that the prosecutrix was neither raped nor threatened by the accused persons at any point of time. Complainant in her deposition had admitted that she had made the complaint against the accused person in a fit of anger,” the court observed.

Declaring the woman “hostile”, the court also noted that nothing incriminating was found against the accused in the matter.

“She deposed that she had made the present complaint in fit of anger as she was thrown out of the department’s wrestling team on grounds of indiscipline as she had an argument with one of the fellow members of the team,” the court said.

The woman had further stated that she was “instigated by some of her colleagues” to file the complaint.

The case

The woman constable, who joined the force in 2010 and has won several medals while being part of the CRPF’s wrestling squad, accused Khajan and Sarjit of sexually harassing female constables and later using them as accomplices.

She lodged the complaint in November last year. Subsequently, an FIR was lodged against the two in December.

She further accused them of secretly clicking her “nude photos while having a bath” and that they would also send her their nude photos. “I was blackmailed through these photographs and they threatened that if I do not talk to them, they would circulate my photos and make it viral on the internet.”

Khajan Singh, a national swimming champion and an Arjuna awardee, won silver at the 1986 Asian Games in Seoul.  He also represented India in the 1982 Commonwealth Games and the 1988 Olympics.

In April this year, Khajan and Sarjit were suspended by the CRPF on the basis of the recommendations of a committee formed to investigate the charges.
