New Delhi: Amid a steep rise in coronavirus cases, the Congress’ top brass met virtually on Saturday and began deliberations on the steps needed to deal with the COVID-19 situation in the country.

The Congress Working Committee (CWC) meeting, chaired by Congress president Sonia Gandhi, was attended by former party chief Rahul Gandhi, general secretaries, other permanent invitees and state in-charges of the party.

The CWC is discussing the current COVID-19 situation in the country and steps that need to be taken urgently to check the further spread of the virus.

The highest decision-making body of the Congress is also likely to pass a resolution asking the government to take effective measures to contain the spread of coronavirus and provide vaccines for all along with financial support for the poor and oppressed sections.

The Congress has been critical of the Modi government’s handling of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Recently, both Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi had written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi asking him to expand the country’s vaccination drive against COVID-19.

The CWC meeting comes amid a steep rise in coronavirus cases in the country with over two lakh new infections being recorded daily in the last three days.

  1. COVID-19, PANDEMIC AND INDIA
I am a UP NRI residing in Canada since 1975; I have studied, worked and travelled the world for over 50 years. My reply is based on my learning, worldly experience and recent dealings with the Central and UP Governments. After obtaining freedom in 1947, India is faced with a pandemic; India is unskilled, ill-equipped to handle the deadliest disease causing massive death and destruction. Indian leaders and their executive lack the leadership resulting in a systematically doomed India. The constitutional machinery in the Provinces and Union territories are doomed due to that lack of leadership. The criminals are selling the body parts of sick people who are unable to afford treatments. I don,t belong to any political or religious party. The Indian leaders get united and consider declaring a ” National Health Emergency” to reduce the death and destruction of India. Corruption, bribery and influence peddling has ruined the image of India. Death and destruction are not reported honestly.
    Respectfully submitted
