Nandikotkur (Andhra Pradesh), Jul 17 (PTI) Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu on Thursday released Krishna river water into the Handri Neeva Sujala Sravanthi (HNSS) canal from pumping station-1 in Nandyal district.
Following the water release, Naidu offered prayers and garments to the Handri Neeva waters, according to an official statement.
“The chief minister released Krishna river water into the Handri Neeva Sujala Sravanthi canal through HNSS pumping station-1,” it added.
The release of water marks a key milestone in the completion of the Rs 696-crore Handri Neeva phase-I canal works. The widening of the canal is expected to increase its carrying capacity to 3,850 cusecs.
The state is investing Rs 3,890 crore under phases I and II of the HNSS project to meet the irrigation and drinking water needs of the drought-prone Rayalaseema region, the statement further said. PTI STH SSK
