New Delhi: Several BJP leaders and ministers have been called out by a mediaperson from China’s state-run Global Television Network (CGTN) for passing off images of the Beijing Daxing International Airport as the model for the upcoming Jewar airport in Noida.
This comes days after leaders from India’s ruling party were also called out for posting images of South Korea’s Incheon international airport as a model for the Jewar airport.
CGTN employee Shen Shiwei Friday night tweeted a collage of senior BJP leaders and Union ministers’ tweets about the Noida International Airport. “Errr….Shocked to know that Indian government officials had to use photographs of China Beijing Daxing International Airport as proof of their ‘achievements of infrastructure’,” tweeted Shiwei.

Union ministers Anurag Thakur, Prahlad Singh Patel, Arjun Ram Meghwal, and UP deputy CM Keshav Prasad Maurya were among those whose tweets were highlighted.
“Asia’s largest international airport in Noida will also bring in Rs 35,000 crore investment. Besides this, more than 1 lakh people will be given employment,” read Thakur’s tweet.
pic.twitter.com/YokeYkz5Le

‘Fake news propaganda’
In the same tweet thread, Shen Shiwei then posted the image that was shared by the Indian leaders as the design for the future Jewar airport, and said — “Welcome to China’s Beijing Daxing International Airport, a mega project with a cost of US$ 17.47 billion”.

Shiwei also posted an article that said the images were of Beijing airport, not the future design of the Jewar airport.
“Indian government’s fake news propaganda debunked”, he said.
The same image was also carried by The Guardian in a 2019 article on China.
