New Delhi: Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami Saturday announced that with the opening of doors of Yamunotri and Gangotri Dhams, the Char Dham pilgrimage of Uttarakhand has started. The devotees will now be able to visit Gangotri and Yamunotri shrines for the next six months during the seasonal pilgrimage.

The first puja was performed Saturday in the name of Prime Minister Narendra Modi in both locations. CM Dhami offered prayers at Uttarakhand’s Kharsali, Yamunotri, as well.

While Gangotri dham and Yamunotri dham are open already, the other two — Kedarnath and Badrinath — will be opened to devotees on 25 April and 27 April, respectively. Devotees on the Char Dham Yatra were welcomed on their arrival at Dev Bhoomi and were showered with flowers from helicopters.

In a press release, CM Dhami said the yatra will be celebrated with “enthusiasm”. He also “welcomed” all the devotees coming on the Char Dham Yatra. He also offered prayers at Gangotri Dham.

“The state government is determined for safe and smooth travel. Every possible facility will be made available to the devotees in the state. He said that all arrangements for the yatra are being regularly monitored,” said the Uttarakhand government in a press release.

Chairman of Gangotri Mandir Committee Harish Semwal said that, “Maa Ganga’s festival doli” left for Gangotri Dham from Mukhba village. The next morning, at 8 am, “Maa Ganga’s festival doli” reached Gangotri Dham.

Suresh Uniyal, Secretary of the Yamunotri Temple Committee, said that Saturday morning, on the occasion of Akshaya Tritiya, the “doli of Maa Yamuna” left for Yamunotri Dham from Kharsali village at 8 am. It reached Yamunotri Dham at 11 am.

Sticking to the schedule, the doors of Gangotri Dham were opened at 12.35 pm and the doors of Yamunotri Dham at 12.41 pm for the devotees Saturday.
