Bijnor (UP), Jul 22 (PTI) A passenger was killed and eight others injured after a bus fell into a roadside drain here on Tuesday apparently after the driver dozed off at the wheel, police said.
The accident occurred around 2:30 am near the barrage on the Meerut-Pauri road when the Uttarakhand roadways bus was en route from Chandigarh to Uttarakhand’s Tanakpur, Additional Superintendent of Police Sanjeev Vajpayee said.
The bus was carrying nine people, including the driver and conductor, at the time of the accident.
Police and emergency teams reached the spot upon receiving information and managed to rescue eight passengers.
However, one passenger, aged around 30, could not be evacuated in time and drowned as water filled the submerged bus, officials said.
The injured were taken to the district hospital, where all eight are reported to be in stable condition.
