New Delhi: A war of words broke out between Shiv Sena leader Priyanka Chaturvedi and former Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis’ wife Amruta.

It started when Amruta Fadnavis responded to a tweet posted by Chaturvedi in reference to the Mumbai Police’s decision to transfer salary accounts of its staff to HDFC Bank from Axis Bank. Amruta is the vice-president and corporate head (West India) at Axis Bank.

After the Mumbai Police Thursday said the salary accounts of its staff are being transferred, Chaturvedi, a Rajya Sabha MP, said the move was much needed as the Axis bank had been chosen “arbitrarily” in the past.

“Mumbai Police will transfer salary accounts of 50,000 cops from Axis bank soon. Much needed move considering how arbitrarily the bank was chosen & state government employees’ salary accounts moved overnight,” the MP said in the tweet.

Even though Chaturvedi’s comment had no reference to her, Amruta replied saying, “opportunist dal badlu” cannot understand honesty and hard work.

“Axis Bank is not my family Bank-it’s third largest listed private sector bank and I’m an employee who has worked for the same bank for 18 years! How will an opportunistic दल बदलू understand this honesty & hard work! These accounts were acquired in 2005-basis technology & services,” Amruta said.

Priyanka then posted another tweet in response asking why her previous post affected Amruta when she wasn’t even mentioned in it.

“Why did it hit you so hard when I didn’t even mention you and why does the decision of Mumbai Police hurt if it isn’t your family bank? I said it was arbitrary, why did it hit you? About the दल बदलु bit, maybe Eknath Khadse ji will best respond to you,” Chaturvedi said.

Eknath Khadse had resigned from the BJP Wednesday, blaming Devendra Fadnavis for his decision.

Since 2003, Mumbai Police’s staff’s salary accounts have been with the Axis Bank, and the annual salary comes up to Rs 3,000 crore.

In 2015, Fadnavis, who was the CM at the time, had renewed a five-year contract with the Axis Bank, which drew the opposition parties’ flak since his wife holds a senior position at the bank. The contract with Axis Bank for Mumbai Police salary accounts ended on 31 July 2020.
