Alwar: The victim of the alleged Alwar gang rape has been offered a constable’s job with the Rajasthan police, and the state government has assured a confirmation letter to the family within a fortnight.
According to the family, a government team visited them Saturday to seek her choice of posting, and completed the paper work the same day despite it being the weekend.
“My daughter will now work in the secretariat. My son-in-law also lives in Jaipur,” the victim’s father told ThePrint. “Now they can live together. The government has done excellent work.”
The woman was on her way to the market with her husband on 26 April when the couple was accosted by six men in Alwar’s Thanagazi area. She was then allegedly raped by five of the men in front of her husband while the sixth filmed the assault.
Footage of the assault was later released on social media as part of an alleged extortion attempt. While the six accused have been arrested, police have also booked a channel on video portal YouTube for hosting the footage.
The case became a flashpoint in the Lok Sabha election campaign as well after the victim’s husband alleged that police had initially refused to register their complaint on account of the polls.
PM Narendra Modi and Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) chief Mayawati, an ally in the Congress-led state government, raised the issue at poll rallies, while Congress president Rahul Gandhi, accompanied by Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot and his deputy Sachin Pilot, paid a visit to the victim.

Had demanded a job
The victim comes from an extremely poor family, and they had been demanding a job for her and her husband since the day the rape came to light. The victim had also made the demand at her meeting with Gandhi and Gehlot.
The Rajasthan government then proposed a constable’s job for the woman in the state police.
When the government team met the victim at her home Saturday, she was asked about her preferred posting. She and her in-laws suggested Jaipur city and the Rajasthan government accepted the proposal.
Speaking to ThePrint, the couple expressed satisfaction with the government’s offer. “I am satisfied with the government’s job offer. For further studies, I will accept whatever is decided by my family,” she added.
The husband said he now expected the government to offer him a job too.
The next hearing in the case is scheduled for Tuesday.

One hopes she will devote her working life to women’s safety.
It’s called purchasing victim to save face. Give exemplary punishment to culprit and also police who refused to lodge FIR. Congress rule is worst for poor and majorities.
