New Delhi: The AAP government’s focused approach towards improving governance in areas of education and health, and ensuring continuous supply of water and electricity played a crucial role in the party receiving 53.6 per cent of the votes in the 2020 Delhi assembly election, a survey conducted by Local Circles, an advocacy group, has found.

Conducted in the month preceding the polls, the survey received over a lakh responses — 33 per cent of the respondents were women and 67 per cent were men. The questions dealt with the respondents’ perception of the party’s performance in the last five years.

Released Tuesday, the survey results show that 21 per cent rated the government as excellent, 12 per cent as very good, 16 per cent as good, 19 per cent as average, 18 per cent as poor and 12 per cent as very poor. The respondents took into consideration areas such as water, power, health, anti-corruption, ease of doing business, air quality, public transportation and amenities.

How AAP govt polled on specific issues

Water

On the question of water supply in Delhi, 56 per cent said there was an improvement in the last five years. Thirty three per cent said the improvement was significant, while 23 per cent said there had been a little improvement. Another 18 per cent said there was no improvement at all, and 26 per cent gave a thumbs down, stating that the situation had become worse.

Health

The survey also included a poll on healthcare delivery, an issue the AAP campaign focussed on heavily. Considering key parameters of availability, affordability and quality, 43 per cent gave the government a thumbs up for a significant improvement, but over 66 per cent of the respondents felt there was only some improvement.

Electricity

The AAP government received the highest support for improvement in power supply, reduced electricity bills and education — 80 per cent said there was an improvement in supply and affordability of electricity, and 74 per cent said there was improvement in the area of education.

Corruption

Twenty-three per cent said corruption was significantly less while 14 per cent felt it had increased.

“Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal recently quoted a CAG report and said that their government had increased expenditure on schools, hospitals, water and power, but was still able to maintain a revenue surplus in the last 5 years. He attributed this feat to no corruption and scams,” the report said.
