New Delhi: Aam Aadmi Party Gujarat chief Gopal Italia was detained Thursday afternoon in front of the National Commission for Women (NCW) office in Delhi over a controversial video.
The NCW had summoned Italia in connection with the video where he purportedly used derogatory language against Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
NCW chief Rekha Sharma said: “He denied getting the summons but his reply was ready. He also denied his presence in the video but in his reply, he accepted tweeting (it). He claimed it wasn’t him in the video.”
She added: “His statement and written statement do not match. He hasn’t given a proper reply. I’ve told the police too that action should be taken against him because he was creating an atmosphere to impact the law and order situation. His supporters attempted to enter (the NCW office) forcefully today.”
Sharma said nearly 150 AAP workers had gathered in front of her office in a show of strength when the leader was supposed “to come and only answer a few questions”. “Why did he have to lie and bring so many lawyers?” she asked.
