Medininagar (Jharkhand), Mar 12 (PTI) At least 36 people fell ill due to suspected food poisoning at a wedding ceremony in Jharkhand’s Palamu district on Thursday, officials said.

The victims complained of vomiting and diarrhoea after consuming ‘bundia’, a sugary fried sweet, at the wedding ceremony at Bohita village within Lesliganj police station limits, they said.

“At least 36 people have been affected with diarrhoea after having ‘bundia’ at the wedding ceremony. They are being treated at Lesliganj Hospital and Medinirai Medical College and Hospital,” Palamu civil surgeon Anil Kumar Shrivastav said.

“I have also ensured the deputation of medical staff from Lesliganj and Sadar blocks at Medinirai Medical College and Hospital. Adequate beds and essential medicines have also been arranged,” he said.

Shrivastav added that the food inspector had been directed to collect samples of the ‘bundia’ for examination to determine whether any adulterant had caused the illness. PTI RPS RPS MNB
