New Delhi: Taking note of the “severe laxity” on part of officers at the Behror police station in Alwar that led to the escape of Haryana’s “most wanted” criminal, the Rajasthan Police chief has terminated the services of two head constables and suspended the deputy superintendent of police and the station house officer.

Besides, two constables were suspended and the entire staff of 69 policemen have been sent to police lines.

At least 12 men armed with weapons, including AK-47 rifles, had stormed the Behror police station on 6 September and freed Haryana’s dreaded criminal Vikram Gurjar alias Papla, who carried a reward of Rs 5 lakh on his head and was arrested just a day before.

Some policemen were “sleeping”, while some were bathing and some were switching duty when the attack happened.

Confirming the development to ThePrint, DGP Bhupendra Singh said head constables Ramavtar and Vijaypal were dismissed from service after an inquiry found them “guilty of severe laxity” and also established their involvement in the nexus with the gang that attacked the police station.

Deputy SP Janesh Tanwar, SHO Sugan Singh Rathore, head constable Sunil and constable Krishan Kumar were suspended.

DGP perturbed over ‘police-criminal nexus’

ThePrint in its report Monday stated that SHO Rathore was likely to be suspended as he allegedly had a tip-off about the Gurjar gang’s plan — a charge he has refuted.

The entire staff at the Behror police station has been replaced as, police sources said, the director general of police has been quite perturbed by the increasing rate crime in Alwar and the alleged nexus between criminals and some policemen.

Policemen in most of the districts in Rajasthan are local residents and, therefore, end up helping criminals, according to a senior officer of the Special Operations Group (SOG), which has been constituted to nab Gurjar and members of his gang.

The SOG along with police teams of Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh and Delhi have launched a hunt to nab Gurjar.

The police have arrested two persons — Vinod Swami and Kailash Chandra — in connection with the case so far. Swami is a former village sarpanch and a history-sheeter.

A team of Behror police station had caught Gurjar on 5 September during patrolling and recovered Rs 31.90 lakh from his car. Sources said Gurjar was in Alwar to allegedly avenge the July murder of Bahujan Samaj Party leader from Behror, Jasram Gurjar.
