New Delhi: A day after India crossed the 100 crore Covid-19 vaccine doses mark, Prime Minister Narendra Modi Friday said the world will now see India as “more safe from Covid” and the country’s acceptance as a pharma hub will grow further.

In an address to the nation, Modi said that when the biggest pandemic of the century hit countries across the world, apprehensions were raised over India’s vaccination programme, but the success of our vaccination campaign is now answering every question.

“The 100 crore vaccination mark is not just a number but a new chapter in history, a testament that India can achieve a tough aim successfully…. It shows that the country works hard for the fulfilment of its goals,” the PM said.

He further said the successful vaccination campaign showed the power of this ‘Team India’ and has demonstrated to the whole world that democracy can deliver.

The PM also said that India’s first line of defence against the pandemic was public participation, as part of which people lit diyas and clanged thalis. “Some people have questioned saying ‘Will it help us get rid of the disease…?’ However, it was India’s unity that was on display during those events.”

‘No VIP culture’ in India’s vaccine drive

Modi said his government ensured that VIP culture does not overshadow the country’s vaccination programme and that everyone is treated equally.

“Covid does not discriminate between rich & poor; our vaccination drive also is based on no discrimination. India’s vaccine campaign is a living example of ‘Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas, Sabka Vishwas aur Sabka Prayas‘,” the PM said.

He also said that we should be proud of the fact that India’s entire vaccination programme has been “science-driven and science-based.” “It’s based on scientific methods, entirely,” he said.

The PM said the credit for this achievement goes to the duty of 130 crore countrymen. “…. this success is the success of India, the success of every countryman,” he said.

PM Modi also wrote columns in leading dailies Friday on the world’s largest vaccination drive. He wrote that one of the reasons for the success of the campaign was the trust that people developed in the vaccine and the process followed, despite various efforts to create mistrust and panic.

‘Made in India’ products

In his 20-minute address to the nation, PM Modi also delved into India’s economy.

“Experts in India and abroad are very positive about India’s economy. Today, not only record investment is coming to Indian companies but new employment opportunities are also being created for the youth,” Modi said.

Appealing to people to buy ‘Made in India’ products during festival season, the PM said, “Wherever we see there is only optimism now….earlier there were only chants about made in this country, that country, but today everyone is talking about ‘Made in India’.”

Modi, however, also cautioned people to not let their guards down because 100 crore people have got vaccinated. “However strong or advanced the armour is, we cannot let down our guard until the war is won,” the PM said.

He also used the occasion to appeal to all those who have not taken the first dose of Covid vaccine yet should give utmost priority to getting vaccinated. “Those who are vaccinated should encourage others,” he said.
