As BJP pulls out all stops to win ongoing Gujarat assembly elections & return to power in a state it has governed for 27 years, ThePrint's Praveen Jain brings glimpses from the campaign.
Ahmedabad, Godhra, Gujarat: It was a star-studded campaign in Gujarat this week, as the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) pulled out the big guns to woo voters ahead of this month’s assembly elections, the first phase of voting for which is ongoing Thursday. Voting in the second phase is scheduled to be held Monday.
Results are to be announced on 8 December.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, BJP national president J.P. Nadda, Union minister Smriti Irani and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath are among senior party leaders who were seen holding public rallies and roadshows in the state.
The leaders are traversing the narrowest of lanes and by-lanes to reach voters, as the party pushes to return to a state where it has been in power for the past 27 years, since 1995.
From Ahmedabad to Godhra, the BJP leaders were seen going door-to-door and engaging with voters in public rallies, as the party left no unturned to woo voters in a state where competition has tightened with the Aam Aadmi Party entering the poll fray.
