Murmu & Modi welcome Egypt’s Sisi. Snapshots from Republic Day chief guest’s ceremonial reception

In a meeting held later, Modi and Sisi decided to upgrade the ties between India and Egypt to a 'strategic partnership'. This is the Egyptian president's first visit to India.

New Delhi: Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, the chief guest at the Republic Day Parade, received a ceremonial reception from President Droupadi Murmu and Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the Rashtrapati Bhavan Wednesday.

This is Sisi’s first visit to India. Union ministers S.Jaishankar, Dharmendra Pradhan, Mansukh Mandaviya, and Piyush Goyal, and Delhi’s Lieutenant Governor V.K. Saxena were present at the ceremony.

Modi and Sisi held bilateral talks at Hyderabad House later in the day and announced that the two countries were elevating their relationship to a “strategic partnership”, vowing to expand ties in the areas of defence and security, trade, and counter-terror cooperation.
