Sahaspur, Uttarakhand: With barely a week to go for the Uttarakhand assembly elections, the top leadership of Congress and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) have hit the road running asking people for votes.

On Sunday, BJP president J.P. Nadda addressed a rally in Suhaspur and conducted door-to-door programmes asking people to vote for the party, days after Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s rallies in Uttarakhand were cancelled due to inclement weather.

As Nadda went door-to-door, the campaign song played out asking people to give BJP another chance. “Ayodhya ko sajaya hai Kashi ko sajaya hai, aur ab Uttarakhand bhi sajaayenge. Jo Ram ko laaye hai hum unko laayenge (Have decorated Ram Temple in Ayodhya, we have also decorated Kashi, and now it’s Uttarakhand’s turn. We will bring those to power who have brought Lord Ram).”

Campaigning had earlier come to a halt in many parts of Uttarakhand due to rain and snow. On Monday, Nadda is expected to address a rally in Bagheshwar.

Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra also addressed party workers and held a virtual rally in Dehradun last week. She also launched the party’s manifesto on 2 February, in which the party has promised to put a cap on LPG prices, creating new jobs and giving priority to women in employment.

Party leader Rahul Gandhi also addressed a rally and visited Har Ki Pauri in Haridwar on 5 February.
