New Delhi: Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni received a ceremonial reception at the Rashtrapati Bhavan Thursday. Meloni is the chief guest and keynote speaker at the inaugural session of the eighth Raisina Dialogue.
She later held talks with Prime Minister Narendra Modi at Hyderabad House, where both leaders exchanged views on taking bilateral ties forward.
This is Meloni’s first visit to India, and an Italian PM’s first in 5 years.
The Modi government has decided to create an action plan to celebrate the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations between India and Italy this year.
“With this, we will be able to show the achievements of both countries’ diversity, history, science and technology, innovation, sports, and other fields on the global stage,” said PM Modi.
“Today, we’re announcing the establishment of a ‘Start Up Bridge’ between India and Italy. We welcome this. There is one more sector wherein both the countries are beginning a new chapter, that is — defence cooperation,” he added.
