New Delhi: A viral video purportedly showing a group of people offering namaaz inside a government school is being circulated on social media with a claim that this school is in Delhi.

The video and its screenshots are being used to further claim that Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has turned Delhi schools into madrasas.

But the reality is that the incident actually took place in Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh.

The video shows policemen, along with a few individuals, barging into a classroom where a group of Muslims, including several children, had gathered.

In the video, the individuals are seen questioning the group about what they are doing on the premises, while making several hateful comments towards Islam.

One individual is seen asking whether the children are learning to ‘kill and mutilate’ (maar kaat) in Urdu, even as the police round up several people and take them away.

A woman in the video explains that these are “innocent children from the masjid”, after which a policeman starts questioning the woman.

The video was shared on social media with captions alleging that this was a recent incident from a government school in Delhi, attacking Arvind Kejriwal for turning government schools into madrasas.

Another social media user alleged that Kejriwal’s Aam Aadmi Party was grooming Rohingyas to turn them into vote banks.

Fact check

The videos being shared are grainy, making it difficult to ascertain their origin.

However, the original video uploaded on 23 November on Facebook by a user Dildarpuri Goswami clearly shows that it is from a school in Ghaziabad.

At about 1.42 minutes into the video, one can see the name of the school written in Hindi in the background, with Ghaziabad written below the name. At the 1.54 mark, one can see the UP police initials in Hindi on the police uniform.
