Viral Aaj Tak news graphic saying ‘Modi has a special plan for Taliban’ is fake

The graphic claiming to be from Hindi news channel Aaj Tak is fake

New Delhi: A graphic claiming to be from Hindi news channel Aaj Tak has gone viral on Facebook and Twitter.

The graphic, which appears to be a screenshot of a news bulletin on Aaj Tak, reads: “America bhaga ab India sambhalega, Afghanistan ko ab hogi asli jung (America has run away, now India will take care of Afghanistan, the real war will begin now)”.

Another line reads, “Taliban tera time khatam Modi ka special plan (Taliban your time is over; Modi’s special plan)”.

The graphic was first used as a thumbnail with a YouTube video titled “America bhaaga, ab Bharat karega Afghanistan mein hukumat (America ran away, now India will rule over Afghanistan).

The video was uploaded on 1 September on a channel called “Z to A Technical” and has over 2 lakh views.

Several Twitter users circulated the screenshot, mocking Indian media.

The image was also shared on Facebook by several users.

Fact-check

The graphic being widely shared on social media is fake. It does not match Aaj Tak’s news broadcast format.

Also, the anchor featured in the image is not employed with Aaj Tak.

Since the image went viral, the YouTube channel where the graphic was first used has changed the thumbnail of the video.
