The writer said she knows the image has been manipulated, but it doesn’t detract from the message.

Writer Madhu Kishwar tweeted an image of a truck with a board plate that reads “Kripiya horn na bajaye, Modi sarkar so rahi hain.” (Please don’t horn, the Modi government is asleep.)

Tweeting that trucks carry words of wisdom, philosophical poetry and political commentary, she added that this picture “speaks volumes”.

However, the image of the board has been added to the truck.

However, saying that she knows that the image has been manipulated, Kishwar added that it doesn’t detract from the message.

When contacted by ThePrint, Kishwar said that she agrees with the message. “The government needs to wake up, things are not going right. It won’t do to be self-congratulatory at this time. They need a serious wake-up call,” she said.

“These jokes have a meaning. If a regime starts becoming the butt of jokes, that’s not a good sign,” she said.

Her tweet has now received nearly 900 likes, and 322 retweets.

Truck art in India traditionally includes floral patterns, bright colours, calligraphy and large text. The art is usually customized to suit the owner, often inscribing popular messages like “Horn OK Please”.

Mirrors, cloth, and other ornaments are also used to decorate the vehicles. The art form is also very popular in Pakistan, where it has established itself as a ‘folk art-form’. Kishwar stated that she also appreciates truck art. “Trucks normally carry very astute messages, I’m great admirer,” she said.

Kishwar has previously tweeted fake news on multiple occasions. Just last month, she created a stir when she tweeted the names of five Muslim men, and said that they had been arrested for attacking a school bus while protesting the release of the film Padmaavat. The Gurugram police issued a statement denying this after she sent her tweet to her huge following of almost 2 million.
