New Delhi: As India’s coronavirus numbers shot past the 7 lakh mark, the government claimed it is fully prepared to tackle the situation. The preparedness includes arrangement of oxygen support, ICUs and ventilator facilities.

As on 7 July, there were 1,201 dedicated Covid-19 hospitals, 2,611 dedicated Covid healthcare centres and 9,909 Covid-19 care centres to look after patients with very severe to very mild symptoms, the health ministry said in a statement.

Active cases

In the last 24 hours, India reported 22,252 cases. However, with recoveries rising too, the total active cases in the country currently stands at 2,59,557, just about 6,000 more than Monday.

Daily tests

After the usual weekend dip, the tests touched 2,41,430 again. The testing numbers are important because that is the key to detecting new cases.

Number of deaths

The total number of deaths in the country has now crossed 20,000. In the last 24 hours, there were 467 cases. The WHO Situation Report 168, dated 6 July 2020, also shows that India has one of the lowest deaths per million population. India’s cases of death per million population is 14.27 while the global average is more than four times this, at 68.29.

Positivity rate

The national sample positivity rate came down, after the spike on Monday, to 9.2 per cent. However, it is not moving into a danger zone. Anything above 10 is a sign that tests are not keeping pace with the disease burden.

Recovered cases

During the last 24 hours, a total of 15,515 Covid-19 patients have recovered, taking the cumulative figure of recovered cases to 4,39,947 as of Tuesday. Recoveries have kept pace with the rise in cases, say health officials.

Total cases

The total Covid-19 cases in the country have now crossed 7 lakh. The WHO report shows that India has one of the lowest cases of COVID-19 per million population. India’s cases per million population is 505.37 while the global average is at 1,453.25.

Hugh-burden states

Delhi: The national capital crossed yet another psychological barrier — one lakh cases. There have been 3,115 deaths so far because of Covid-19.

Gujarat: The state reported 735 cases in the last 24 hours. There were 17 deaths as well.

Maharashtra: The state continued its high growth trajectory with 5,368 fresh cases. The state also saw 204 deaths since Monday.

Tamil Nadu: The southern state reported 3,827 cases in the last 24 hours. The state also saw 61 deaths. Its death rate is among the lowest in the country.

Tests and positive cases

The testing bars continue to look similar with Gujarat testing the least. However, Delhi shows a drastic fall, by almost 10,000 tests from Monday, when the figure was at 23,136. Tamil Nadu continues to test the most.
