New Delhi: As Maharashtra’s R value rose to 1.29, India also saw its overall R rise to 1.19. Throughout the pandemic, India’s R has been mirroring that of Maharashtra since it is the state that has the highest number of active cases.

Meanwhile, 22 lakh people were vaccinated across the country in the last 24 hours.

R value

India’s R value for Covid-19 has increased to 1.19 this week, which is the highest since July.

The spike in R can be attributed to the rise in R for Maharashtra. A comparison between the R values of Maharashtra with that of the rest of the country shows that India’s R value roughly mirrors the peaks and troughs of the Maharashtra R graph.

The only time that Maharashtra’s rise in R did not correspond to a rise in the overall R value for India was when Kerala had overtaken the state in terms of active case count. During this time, all other states had R below 1, which had offset the effect of Maharashtra’s cases on the overall R value.
