India’s positivity rate drops to 5-month low at 3.1%, Kerala records more than 6,000 cases

New Delhi: As the number of Covid-19 tests increased to over 11 lakh in the last 24 hours, the test positivity dropped to 3.1 per cent — the lowest it has been since June.

The overall active cases in the country also continued to decline but Kerala saw a rise in its daily Covid cases, with 6,316 cases registered in the past 24 hours.

India reported 35,551 new cases of Covid-19 over the last 24 hours. The number of new cases saw a slight decrease despite a rise in the number of tests.

India’s active Covid-19 caseload fell to 4,22,943 Thursday. This accounts for 4.44 per cent of the total cases detected in the country since the beginning of the pandemic.

As many as 526 patients died across the country in the last 24 hours, with Maharashtra recording the highest number of deaths. This brings the total reported deaths in the country to 1,38,648.

Punjab continues to have the highest death rate in the country at 3.2 per cent. Maharashtra also remains at the second-highest position, with CFR of 2.6 per cent.

Sikkim’s CFR stands at 2.2 per cent, the third-highest in the country. India’s overall case fatality rate is now 1.45 per cent.

Daily tests

In the last 24 hours, 11,11,698 Covid tests were conducted in the country across 1,187 government laboratories and 1,001 private laboratories.

So far, 14,24,45,949 tests have been carried out in India since the beginning of the pandemic.

Positivity rate

The test positivity rate has reduced slightly, in the last 24 hours, to 3.1 per cent — the lowest since June.

The overall TPR for India, calculated since the beginning of the pandemic, is 6.6 per cent.

Recovered cases

Since the beginning of the pandemic, 89,73,373 Covid-19 patients in India have recovered from the infection, which is the highest recoveries in the world.

As many as 40,726 people have recovered from the disease in the last 24 hours.

A total of 95,34,964 people have been infected with Covid-19 since the beginning of the pandemic in India — the second-highest in the world.

States with highest active cases

Maharashtra’s active caseload reduced to 89,611 Thursday but the state continues to have the highest number of active cases.

In the last 24 hours, 3,350 people tested positive for the disease while 111 people succumbed to the disease.

This brings the total number of cases detected in the state to 18,32,176, of which 47,357 people have died.

Kerala saw an increase in its active caseload to 61,587 after 6,316 new cases were detected in the last 24 hours. This is the highest among the top five states with active cases.

In the last 24 hours, 28 patients have died in the state, bringing the death toll of the state to 2,298. Kerala has recorded a total of 6,14,673 cases so far.

In Delhi, 5,78,324 people have tested positive for Covid-19 since the beginning of the pandemic. Of these, 30,302 cases are active cases, with 3,944 new cases detected in the last 24 hours.

As many as 9,342 Covid-19 patients have died in Delhi over the course of the pandemic, with 82 deaths reported in the last 24 hours.

Rajasthan’s death toll now stands at 2,350, with 19 deaths reported in the last 24 hours. The state currently has 26,710 active Covid-19 cases and 1,990 cases were reported over the last 24 hours.

A total of 2,72,400 people have been infected with Covid-19 in the state since the beginning of the pandemic.

Karnataka overtook West Bengal to enter the top five states in terms of active cases. With 1,440 new cases detected in the last 24 hours, the total number of cases detected from the state stands at 8,87,667.

Of these, 24,169 cases are active while 11,808 people have lost their lives. In the last 24 hours, 16 patients succumbed to the infection.
