India’s daily cases drop below 13,000, positivity rate at 1.4% — the lowest since June

New Delhi: The number of new cases in India dropped below 13,000 in the last 24 hours — the lowest since June. At the same time, the test positivity rate also dropped to 1.4 per cent, another six-month low.

Daily cases

In the last 24 hours, India recorded 12,584 new cases of Covid-19 — the lowest it has been since 16 June. At the time, India had reported a total of 3,43,000 cases of Covid-19.

India’s overall active case count fell to 2,16,558, which accounts for 2 per cent of the total cases detected in the country so far.

As many as 167 Covid-19 deaths were recorded in the last 24 hours. This brings the total coronavirus death toll in India to 1,51,327 since the beginning of the pandemic.

India’s overall case fatality rate (CFR) is now 1.44. Punjab’s case fatality, which is the highest in the country, reduced today to 3.21. Meanwhile, Maharashtra’s CFR is 2.54. Sikkim has the third-highest fatality rate at 2.15.

As many as 8,97,056 tests were carried out in the last 24 hours across 1,202 government labs and 1,120 private labs in the country.

Since the beginning of the pandemic, a total of 18,26,52,887 Covid-19 tests have been carried out in the country.

Positivity rate

The test positivity rate reduced to 1.4 per cent in the last 24 hours — the lowest since June. The overall test positivity, calculated since the beginning of the pandemic, is now 5.7 per cent.

Recovered cases

As many as 18,385 Covid-19 patients recovered across India in the last 24 hours, bringing the total number of recoveries in the country to 1,01,11,294.

A total of 1,04,79,179 cases of Covid-19 have been detected in India since the beginning of the pandemic. The largest number of cases, so far, have been reported from Maharashtra, Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh.

States with highest active cases

Kerala’s active case count — the highest in the country — has reduced to 63,547. In the last 24 hours, 3,110 new cases of Covid-19 were detected in the state. This has brought the total number of cases detected in the state to 8,14,258.

Of these 3,322 have succumbed to the infection with 20 deaths reported in the last 24 hours.

Maharashtra has 53,463 active cases of Covid-19, with 2,438 new cases detected in the last 24 hours.

As many as 50,101 people have died due to Covid-19 in the state since the beginning of the pandemic, with 40 deaths reported in the last 24 hours. A total of 19,71,552 people have been infected in the state.

In Uttar Pradesh, 509 new cases of Covid-19 and nine Covid deaths were reported in the last 24 hours. A total of 5,93,680 people in the state have been infected since the beginning of the pandemic.

Of these, 10,864 cases are active, while 8,504 people have succumbed to the infection.

In Karnataka, active cases fell to 9,363 with 496 new cases of Covid-19 detected in the last 24 hours. The state reported 4 deaths, which has brought the death toll to 12,144.

A total of 9,28,055 cases of infection have been detected in the state since the beginning of the pandemic — the second-highest after Maharashtra.

Chhattisgarh reported 853 new Covid-19 cases and 15 deaths in the last 24 hours. Active cases in the state reduced to 8,550, while the death toll now stands at 3,505.

Since the beginning of the pandemic, a total of 2,89,231 people have been infected in the state.
