New Delhi: Former Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh, who had been admitted to the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) on 19 April, after testing positive for Covid, was discharged Thursday.

The 88-year-old senior Congress leader had taken both doses of the vaccine before getting infected by the virus.

Speaking to ThePrint, a senior doctor who didn’t wish to be named, said, “Dr Manmohan Singh has been hemodynamically stable for sometime now, it’s been about three-four days. He is doing fine and has been discharged. He has recovered well from Covid-19”.

Haemodynamic stability is a medical term used to describe a stable blood flow. It means the patient has stable blood pressure and heart rate.

ThePrint had earlier reported on Dr Singh’s condition Sunday, a week after he had been admitted to the hospital.

A day before the former PM was admitted, he had written a letter to Prime minister Narendra Modi on the Covid-19 crisis in the country and had urged him to “resist the temptation to look at the absolute number of vaccinations and focus on the percentage of the population vaccinated”.

Suggestions on pandemic management

The former prime minister, in his letter to PM Modi, had also listed out suggestions on managing the pandemic, which included publicising firm orders for doses placed with different vaccine producers and allowing states more flexibility to plan the rollouts.

Responding to Singh’s letter, Union Health Minister Dr Harsh Vardhan had alleged on 19 April that Congress-ruled states were engaged in spreading doubts regarding the efficacy of the vaccines and also accused them of playing with the lives of countrymen.
