New Delhi: In the last 24 hours, daily fatalities crossed 700 after Maharashtra updated its data from the previous days.
Meanwhile, there was also a rise in the number of daily cases detected in the last 24 hours to 50,210. The rise in the cases also increased the positivity rate to 4.1 per cent.
Daily cases
In the last 24 hours, 50,210 people tested positive for Covid-19 across the country. This is the second consecutive day that daily cases have increased.
Active cases
As of Thursday, active Covid-19 cases in India declined to 5,27,962. This accounts for 6.31 per cent of the total cases detected in the country so far. The total active cases have been declining since mid-September.
Number of deaths
India saw a sharp spike in the number of deaths reported in the last 24 hours, with 704 fatalities. On Wednesday, this number was 514.
As many as 1,24,315 people have succumbed to Covid-19 in India since the beginning of the pandemic.
Mortality rate
The overall case fatality rate in India remains unchanged at 1.49. Punjab continues to report the highest case fatality rate in the country at 3.14. Similarly, Maharashtra and Gujarat also continue to maintain high case fatality rates of 2.62 and 2.11, respectively.
Kerala, the state with the second-highest burden of active cases, continues to maintain a low CFR of 0.34.
Daily tests
In the last 24 hours, a total of 12,09,425 tests were carried in the country across 1,134 government labs and 917 private laboratories.
Since the beginning of the pandemic, 11,42,08,384 Covid tests have been conducted.
Positivity rate
An increase in the number of positive cases also led to an increase in the daily test positivity rate. From 3.8 per cent Wednesday, the rate rose to 4.1 per cent, in the last 24 hours.
The overall TPR for India, calculated since the beginning of the pandemic, is 7.3 per cent.
Recovered cases
In the last 24 hours, 55,331 people have recovered from Covid-19, bringing the total number of recoveries in India since the beginning of the pandemic to 77,11,809.
India’s recovery rate is now 92.20 per cent and the country has the largest number of recoveries in the world.
Total cases
Since the beginning of the pandemic, India has recorded 83,64,086 Covid-19 cases in total. India’s Covid cases account for 17.2 per cent of the total cases worldwide.
High-burden states
In the last 24 hours, Maharashtra reported 5,505 new cases and 300 deaths.
While the state has been seeing a little over 100 deaths daily, this spike to 300 is part of the data reconciliation being carried out in the state. An update said that of the 300 deaths, 125 were from Wednesday while 175 were added from the Pune district. This brings the total death toll of the state to 44,548.
A total of 16,98,198 people have been infected with the disease in the state so far, of which 1,13,645 cases are active.
Karnataka reported 3,377 new cases of Covid-19, bringing the total case count of the state to 8,35,773. Of these, 35,712 are active cases.
In the last 24 hours, 34 people have died from the disease in the state, and the death toll stands at 11,281.
In Tamil Nadu, a total of 7,34,429 people have tested positive so far, of which 19,154 cases are currently active.
In the last 24 hours, 2,487 people tested positive for the disease, while 30 deaths were recorded. The state’s death toll now stands at 11,244.
Andhra Pradesh has recorded 8,33,208 cases of coronavirus, so far. Of these, 21,438 cases are currently active while 6,744 people have died.
In the last 24 hours, 2,477 new cases were reported, along with 10 deaths.
In Uttar Pradesh, 2,167 new Covid cases were detected in the last 24 hours, bringing the total number of positive cases in the state to 4,89,502.
The state’s death toll stands at 7,104, with 15 deaths reported in the last 24 hours.
