New Delhi: The number of new Covid-19 cases reported from India Tuesday fell below 10,000 — the lowest in seven months. The test positivity rate also went down to 1.2 per cent.
Meanwhile, over 19 lakh people in the country have now received the Covid-19 vaccines.
Daily cases
In the last 24 hours, India recorded 9,102 new cases of Covid-19, with more than a third of these being reported from Kerala — the state with the highest number of active cases.
This is the lowest number of daily cases reported since 8 June.
Active cases
India’s active Covid-19 cases declined to 1,77,266 Tuesday. Kerala and Maharashtra together account for over 67 per cent of the total active cases in the country.
Number of deaths
As many as 117 Covid-19 patients lost their lives in the last 24 hours. This brings the total coronavirus death toll, since the beginning of the pandemic in India, to 1,53,587.
Mortality rate
India’s overall case fatality rate (CFR) is now 1.44. Punjab’s case fatality, which is the highest in the country, has increased to 3.23. Meanwhile, Maharashtra’s CFR reduced to 2.52. Sikkim has the third highest fatality rate at 2.19.
Daily tests
The number of Covid-19 tests carried out over the last 24 hours increased to 7,25,577 across 1,210 government laboratories and 1,147 private laboratories.
A total of 19,30,62,694 Covid-19 tests have been carried out in the country since the beginning of the pandemic.
Positivity rate
The daily test positivity rate for India declined to 1.2 per cent in the last 24 hours. The overall positivity, calculated since the beginning of the pandemic, is now 5.5 per cent.
Daily vaccinations
A total of 19,50,183 people across India have received Covid-19 vaccinations, with 3,34,679 doses given in the last 24 hours.
With 2,30,119 doses delivered, Karnataka has the highest number of vaccinations so far in India.
Recovered cases
As many as 15,901 Covid-19 patients recovered across India in the last 24 hours. This brings the total number of recoveries, since the beginning of the pandemic in the country, to 1,03,45,985.
Over 14 per cent of the total Covid-19 recoveries in the world are from India.
Total cases
A total of 1,06,76,838 people have been infected with Covid-19 in India. The largest number of cases so far have been reported from Maharashtra, followed by Karnataka and Kerala.
States with the highest active cases
Kerala saw a dip in active cases Tuesday to 70,859, with 3,361 new cases of Covid-19 reported in the state in the last 24 hours.
This brings the total number of Covid-19 cases in the state to 8,93,639, which makes Kerala the state with the third highest number of Covid-19 cases.
A total 3,624 Covid-19 patients have died in the state, with 17 deaths reported in the last 24 hours.
Maharashtra reported 1,842 new cases of Covid-19 in the last 24 hours, which brings the total number of cases detected from the state to 20,10,948 — the highest in the country.
Of these, 44,789 cases are active, while 50,815 people have succumbed to the infection. As many as 30 Covid-19 deaths were reported in the last 24 hours.
In Karnataka, 375 new cases of Covid-19 were detected over the last 24 hours, but active cases in the state declined to 6,865.
A total of 9,36,426 infections have been reported from the state since the beginning of the pandemic. Of these, 12,200 people have died, with three deaths reported in the last 24 hours.
In Uttar Pradesh, active cases declined to 6,813 Tuesday, with 194 new cases of Covid-19 reported in the last 24 hours.
As many as 5,98,907 people in the state have been infected with Covid-19 since the beginning of the pandemic. Also, 8,624 people have succumbed to the infection, with seven Covid-19 deaths reported in the last 24 hours.
Active cases in West Bengal declined to 6,151 Tuesday. The state reported 252 new cases of Covid-19 in the last 24 hours, bringing the total number of cases in the state so far to 5,68,355.
Of these, 10,122 people have died, with seven deaths reported in the last 24 hours.
