Active Covid cases drop to lowest in six months, test positivity rate remains below 2%

New Delhi: Active Covid-19 cases declined below 2.2 lakh in India Wednesday, the lowest since 29 June. However, Kerala saw a rise in active coronavirus infections. The state reported more than 5,500 new cases of Covid-19 in the last 24 hours.

The number of Covid-19 tests dropped below 9 lakh Wednesday, and the test positivity rate remained below 2 per cent.

India recorded 15,968 new cases of Covid-19 in the last 24 hours, with more than a third of these cases being reported from Kerala — the state with the highest number of active cases.

India’s active Covid-19 cases continue to decline. The number of active infections fell to 2,14,507 Wednesday. This accounts for over eight per cent of the total active coronavirus cases in the world.

In the last 24 hours, 202 people with Covid-19 died in the country, bringing the total coronavirus death toll in India to 1,51,529, since the beginning of the pandemic.

India’s overall case fatality rate (CFR) is now 1.44. Punjab’s case fatality, which is the highest in the country, is now 3.21. Meanwhile, Maharashtra’s CFR reduced to 2.53. Sikkim has the third-highest fatality rate in the country, at 2.15.

A total of 8,36,227 Covid-19 tests were carried out in the country in the last 24 hours across 1,202 government and 1,121 private laboratories.

Since the beginning of the pandemic, a total of 18,34,89,114 Covid-19 tests have been carried out in the country.

The test positivity rate increased slightly to 1.9 per cent in the last 24 hours. The overall test positivity rate, calculated since the beginning of the pandemic, is now 5.7 per cent.

As many as 17,817 Covid-19 patients recovered across India in the last 24 hours. This brought the total number of recoveries, since the beginning of the pandemic, in the country to 1,01,29,111 — which is over 15 per cent of the total recoveries in the world.

As many as 1,04,95,147 cases of Covid-19 have been detected in India since the beginning of the pandemic. The largest number of cases so far have been reported from Maharashtra, followed by Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh.

Kerala reported 5,507 new cases of Covid-19 in the state in the last 24 hours — which is more than a third of the new cases detected across India since Tuesday. As a result, Kerala’s active case count, the highest in the country, increased to 64,759.

Since the beginning of the pandemic, the state has reported 8,19,765 cases of Covid-19. Of these, 3,347 people have died, with 25 deaths reported in the last 24 hours.

Active cases in Maharashtra declined to 53,067 Wednesday, with 2,936 new cases detected in the last 24 hours. The state has reported 50,151 Covid-19 deaths since the beginning of the pandemic, with 50 deaths reported in the last 24 hours.

A total of 19,74,488 people have been infected in the state with Covid-19, which is the highest in the country.

In Uttar Pradesh, active cases continue to decline, with 495 new cases of Covid-19 and 10 deaths reported in the last 24 hours.

A total of 5,94,175 people in the state have been infected with Covid-19 since the beginning of the pandemic. Of these, 10,560 cases are active, while 8,514 people have succumbed to the infection.

Karnataka’s active case count fell to 8,928, with 751 new cases of Covid-19 detected in the last 24 hours. The state reported five deaths in the last 24 hours, bringing the death toll to 12,149.

A total of 9,28,806 cases of infection have been detected from the state since in the beginning of the pandemic — the second-highest after Maharashtra.

Chhattisgarh reported 729 new Covid-19 cases and 12 deaths in the last 24 hours. Active cases in the state reduced to 8,060, while the death toll now stands at 3,517.

Since the beginning of the pandemic, a total of 2,90,813 people have been infected in the state.
