5 states, UT account for 60% of daily new Covid cases, India’s positivity rate at 4%

New Delhi: Kerala, Maharashtra, Delhi, West Bengal, Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh account for at least 60 per cent of daily new coronavirus cases in India.

On Thursday, India recorded 4,52,344 active cases. The number of people recovering from the virus touched 86,79,138, while 1,35,223 people have died.

In the last 24 hours, India recorded 44,489 new cases of Covid-19. Five states and one union territory account for 60.72 per cent of these cases.

India’s active caseload reached 4,52,344 Thursday. The present active cases are 4.88 per cent of the total positive cases.

In the last 24 hours, 524 fatalities were reported in India. Six states and UTs, including Delhi, Maharashtra, West Bengal, Haryana, Punjab and Uttar Pradesh, account for 60.50 per cent of these fatalities.

India’s total case fatalities have reached 1,35,223, since the beginning of the pandemic.

At 3.2 per cent, Punjab continues to record the highest case fatality rate in India. This is followed by Maharashtra at 2.6 per cent and Sikkim at 2.1 per cent.

India’s average case fatality rate stood at 1.46 per cent. This is a slight decrease from Wednesday, when the case fatality rate stood at 1.5 per cent.

Daily tests

The total number of tests conducted in the past 24 hours were 10,90,238. This was a significant decrease from Wednesday, when 11,59,032 tests were conducted in a day.

Since the beginning of the pandemic, 13,59,31,545 tests have been conducted.

Positivity rate

India’s positivity rate increased to 4 per cent Thursday, from 3.83 per cent Wednesday. The increase in positivity rate could be attributed to the decrease in number of samples collected in the last 24 hours.

86,79,138 people have recovered from Covid-19 so far. The national recovery rate stood at 93.66 per cent. In the last 24 hours, 36,367 recoveries were reported.

The total Covid-19 cases in India reached 92,66,705 Thursday. India has the second-highest number of Covid-19 cases in the world, after the US.

States with the highest active cases

At 84,464, Maharashtra has recorded the highest number of active cases in India. The number of deaths reported in the state stood at 46,748. In the last 24 hours, the state recorded 6,159 cases.

Kerala recorded the second-highest number of active cases, at 65,116, and has reported 2,122 deaths. It recorded 6,491 cases in the last 24 hours, which is the highest number of cases reported in a day Thursday.

Delhi recorded the third-highest number of active cases, at 38,287. So far, 8,720 deaths have been reported. In the last 24 hours, the state recorded 5,246 cases.

Rajasthan has recorded 26,320 active cases and 2,218 deaths. It reported 3,285 cases since Wednesday.

Karnataka has recorded 24,890 active cases and 11,714 deaths. It reported 1,630 cases in the last 24 hours.
