Bairia legislator Surendra Singh alleges that the survivor was trying to implicate Kuldeep Singh Sengar in a false case even as the demand for his arrest grows.

New Delhi: BJP legislator from Bairia in Uttar Pradesh Surendra Singh has said that a mother of three children cannot get raped, while trying to defend Bangarmau MLA Kuldeep Singh Sengar, accused of raping a teenager in Unnao.

Singh, it appears, was not aware of the fact that the rape survivor is a teenager with no children.

“Tell me, can anyone rape a mother of three children? I am a married man, so I know. I am speaking from a psychological point of view,” MLA Singh said.

“How can a mother of three to four children be raped? The rape allegations are completely false,” he added.

Last weekend, the teen threatened to set herself on fire outside Uttar Pradesh chief minister Yogi Adityanath’s residence, after the local police refused to take her complaint and register an FIR despite repeated requests.

The FIR was finally registered on 12 April after the special investigation team, constituted to probe the matter found MLA’s involvement in the matter.

Surendra Singh, however, continued to defend Sengar. “Sengar is being accused of rape but let me tell you that he was not even in Unnao on that day. Sengar is not involved and I can say that with surety,” Singh claimed.

Singh alleged that the survivor is trying to implicate Sengar in the name of women’s harassment.

“No one should be implicated like this in the name of women’s harassment and Dalit atrocities. If we start doing that, then the entire society will become a victim,” he said.

On 3 April, the teen’s father was allegedly attacked by the Sengar’s brother Atul and their associates to force the family to withdraw their complaint. The ensuing brawl spawned two police complaints, one by the teen’s family and the second by the alleged assaulters. However, while the father was arrested, the MLA’s brother was reportedly not even booked.

The survivor’s father died of his injuries in police custody on 9 April.

“If a girl’s father has been beaten up with lathis two days ago, how can she be raped? It is completely made up case,” Surendra Singh said.

“She (victim) is just implicating Sengar in a false case because she knows that if he goes to jail for rape, he will not get bail easily. It is a conspiracy,” he said.

“I have heard that the same girl had filed a false rape case against a man some years back, because of which the man had to spend six months in jail,” Singh added.

Demanding a proper inquiry into the brawl, he said, “An FIR should be registered and the culprits should be booked.”

“We know that Sengar’s brother is involved, so he should be punished. But rape charges against Sengar are malicious,” he claimed.
