Anuj, the son of the CBI court judge Loya, held a press conference and said the doubts the family had about the death earlier have been dispelled.

Mumbai: Days after a petition related to his father’s death was among the issues raised by four Supreme Court judges at an unprecedented press conference that raised questions about the Chief Justice of India, the son of the Maharashtra judge Sunday said he had no suspicions about the death.

Anuj Loya, the son of special CBI court judge B.H. Loya, said that even other family members didn’t have any doubts about the death any more.

“I don’t have any suspicion. My family members had some doubts earlier, but now they are also clear,” Anuj told a press conference.

Loya was hearing the Sohrabuddin Sheikh encounter case, in which now BJP president Amit Shah was an accused. Loya was in Nagpur to attend the wedding of a fellow judge’s daughter when he passed away on 1 December, 2014. A month later, Shah was discharged in the case by another judge.

Anuj said recent events had been painful for the family, and appealed to the media, non-government organisations and activists not to harass them. One report said that Anuj had written a letter in 2015 seeking an inquiry into his father’s death.

When asked about it Sunday, Anuj said, “I was 17. I was in an emotional turmoil. But today, I don’t have any suspicions.”

He added that he was no one to decide whether the matter should be probed.

Anuj’s statement comes months after his grandfather, Harikishan, and his aunts told The Caravan magazine that the judge had been under immense pressure to give a verdict that favoured Shah. They had also expressed suspicions over the circumstances of the judge’s death.

The family has been unreachable since the report was published. Loya’s parents had left their family home in Gategaon in Maharashtra’s Latur district. The judge’s sisters and Anuj had kept their phones switched off.

Official records say that Loya’s death was due to natural causes. The Nagpur police maintain there was nothing suspicious about his death.

  1. Anuj Loya is as much in the dark about what happened, as is the family alleging that he was murdered, as are the HC judges who said nothing was suspicious. None of them were witnesses. Anuj is entitled to saying whatever he wants to, without anyone questioning him. Likewise, the press is free to ask questions of the suspicious nature of the death. Most murders are not proven by a he-said-she-told quotes, so I don’t know why everyone wants to solve this case based on courts. If an independent and competent Police exists in India – BIG IF, only they can we get to the bottom of this matter. The new tampered registers do raise suspicions. Moreover, the more there’s resistance in independently probing this, the more Amit Shah will be considered guilty. If he has something to hide, ofcourse his lackeys are doing a terrible job of covering up. If he’s killed this man, Shah will get caught soon enough. It’s too big a crime. Hindu dharma will take care of it.

  2. Judge Loya’s son suddenly does an about turn & reverses his earlier statement. Could possibly that he & family members face a threat on their lives or could have even been offered money. One can’t put this past Amit Shah who has no morals whatsoever, & can stoop to any level. The whole incident does not smell good.

  3. But in the press conference video that I saw, the family friend who made much of the talking says they contacted Amit Shah and he organised the press conference. So isn’t it very clear that it’s a doctored one.
