IAS Association has praised officer Garima Singh for ‘standing firm’ in face of BJP MLA Udaybhan Singh’s threats.
New Delhi: The Indian Administrative Service (IAS) Association has lashed out at Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLA Udaybhan Singh after a video of him threatening a civil servant in Agra went viral Monday.
“Threatening young IAS officers working in the field is not acceptable,” the association tweeted Tuesday.
Singh, 70, is the legislator for Fatehpur Sikri in Uttar Pradesh. He was caught on camera tearing into subdivisional magistrate (SDM) Garima Singh after she allegedly turned away a few beneficiaries from a camp for the distribution of compensation for weather-inflicted crop damage.
Singh was reportedly visiting the Kerawali tehsil in Agra when the incident occurred Monday.
“Aap sarkar ke virudh kaam kar rahi hain… humein dikhaana chahti hain aap SDM hain (You are working against the government. Do you want to show us that you are the SDM)?” he is heard saying.
“Aapko maloom nahi main vidhayak hun (Don’t you know I’m an MLA)? Meri taakat ka ehsaas nahi hai (You don’t realise the extent of my power),” he adds.
This is followed by sloganeering against Garima Singh, with chants of “SDM murdabad, SDM haye haye (Down with the SDM)” clearly heard on the video.
ThePrint has reached the IAS officer for comment, but is yet to get a response. MLA Singh said he will comment later in the evening. This report will be updated when they respond.
In its tweet, the IAS Association praised Garima for “standing firm”.

No stranger to controversy
This episode isn’t the first time Singh and his family have made headlines for the wrong reasons.
Earlier this year, the legislator’s son, Devendra Chaudhary, was booked for allegedly assaulting an Agra Municipal Corporation engineer.
A few months later, Singh’s grandson Kunal Chaudhary was booked for allegedly sexually harassing a Greater Noida based video jockey and YouTuber in Agra.
Mlas are temporary public paid servant they are not above a qualified and professional ias. They resort to cheap public support without vision or mission.

IAS Officers behave like this with common in men. So, this MLS must have faced such a situation earlier. I had a bad experience with a lady IAS officer. Once I along with my father went to the office of an IAS officer in Odisha. As she was in a meeting, we sent a slip with my father’s name, who is 90 years old. I am also a senior citizen. But without meeting us she had the audacity to leave the office. So when someone rebuke a bureocrate I get happy. If at all I will get an opportunity to insult a bureocrate I will definitely do it.
It seems the MLA’s family is a family of serial lawbreakers. Why is the BJP leadership quiet?

Such politicians should be taken to task by the Chief Minister by removing him from his post. He has no reason to shout and mis behave at an SDM in public. Unless such mannerless politicos are not punished our count will not prosper. Every uneducated fellow who becomes an an MLA takes law into his hands. This is highly deplorable. He should be suspended with immediate effect.

प्रशासन के अधीन बहूत से अन्य अधिकारी IAS/PCS से ज्यादा कठिन परिस्थितियों मे कार्य करते है, बिना सुविधा एवं सहायता के ।ना तो IPS ना ही ये Civil servant उनकी मदद के लिये आते है अपितु असंख्य बार ये IPS/IAS अपने अधीन कार्य करने वालो को प्रताड़ित करते है । जब साल 2 साल मे इन्हे ये झेलना पड्ता है तो इन्हे भी दर्द का एहसास होता है ।
दुर्गा शक्ती naagpaal का किस्सा तो याद होगा ।
ये जिम्मेवारी कम एवं शक्ती ओर आराम का ज्यादा उपभोग करते है, आमजन तो इनसे मिले हुए भी डरते है,राजनैतिक आकओ एव वारिश्ट अधिकारी के आगे ये जनता की कोई कद्र नही करते ।

This type of situation is not new but it is only because of themselves. The administration has been breaking rules to please the political leaders and also to fill their bank accounts. This encouraged the leaders to go to gundagardi as they know that either their political approach or their top officials will save them. So it is time to follow the path of honesty and rules taught during trading without any fear as the case with this lady.

It is, of course, right that the IAS Association stands up for a member of the tribe. However, this pattern of misbehaviour of elected representatives towards public servants on duty, some quite junior, is a growing malaise that needs to be resisted and condemned unequivocally whenever it manifests itself. In that sense, the Association should think of itself as representing the entire bureaucracy, not just its elite apex. The most effective riposte to the rhetorical question, Tum jaante nahin main kaun hoon, in a democracy is delivered by humble voters once every five years.
BJP has got it’s results for its ego from all states… Counting days for its annihilation.. Politicians come and go. IAS officers stay fore ever.. The educated voters percentage brought Modi, BJP to Govt. Now will they vote.? for BJP? Vested Interest supporting… Time for BJP and its Govt to go…..
