Chinese man sends marriage proposal to SP Suhai Aziz

Sindh Superintendent of Police Suhai Aziz, who foiled the attack on the Chinese consulate in Karachi last Friday, has become a favourite among social media users in China, The Express Tribune reported.

A young Chinese man has even proposed to her marry her.

Social media users in China have praised Aziz for displaying bravery and also for her good looks. A few even compared her with a popular Chinese actor.

Some have expressed concern for her safety in the aftermath of the militant attack in Karachi.

Aziz has been nominated for Pakistan’s highest national award for police officers.

People in China raise funds for kin of slain policemen

People in China are raising funds for the families of the two policemen who lost their lives while guarding the Chinese consulate during the terror attack in Karachi Friday, reported Dawn.

The two policemen — assistant sub-inspector Ashraf Dawood and constable Amir Khan — were killed when the three attackers threw grenades at them and opened fire in an attempt to enter the consulate.

Dawood and Khan were working in the foreign security cell, which was set up to protect the Chinese nationals.

Lijian Zhao, the deputy chief of mission of Pakistan’s Chinese Embassy, announced on Twitter Sunday that Chinese people were donating to support the families of the two Sindhi policemen who died and one security guard who was injured during the attack. Zhao reinforced the idea of China and Pakistan as “iron brothers”.

In a second tweet, Zhao said that “Chinese donations for Pakistan police have shown that China-Pakistan friendship is higher than mountains and deeper than sea”.

Mohammad Juman, the injured private security guard, is currently undergoing treatment at Jinnah Post Graduate Medical Centre, Karachi and might soon be discharged as he is recovering quickly.

Officials from the Chinese consulate Sunday visited the guard in the hospital where Zhao gave him Rs 5 lakh in cash.

Baloch separatist leader among 13 named in FIR

The attack on the Chinese Consulate in Karachi was allegedly carried out in collaboration with Indian intelligence agency Research and Analysis Wing (RAW) to disrupt Pakistan-China relations, according to an article published in the Dawn.

At least 13 people have been named in the FIR —  Harbiyar Marri, Aslam alias ‘Acchu’, Bashir Zeb, Noor Bux Mengal, Karim Marri, Capt. Rehman Gul, Nisar, Gaindi, Sheikhu, Sharif, Hamal, Munshi and Agha Sherdil.

According to the FIR filled by the Counter Terrorism Department in the Boat Basin Station House, “BLA accepted the responsibility for the attack and identified three slain militants along with their pictures as Azal Khan Baloch, Razik Baloch and Rais Baloch”.

The CTD has revisited the crime scene to assess the damage.

Officer Khattab told Dawn “some arrests” have also been made in the case but that it would not be appropriate to share details with the media at the moment.

They were able to identify one slain militant, Razik, by his fingerprint data.

Music video unveiled as part of #InkaarKaro movement

A music video was unveiled last week as part of #InkaarKaro, a movement by Pakistani actor-director Angeline Malik to address issues women and other vulnerable people are facing in the country, reported The Express Tribune.

The #InkaarKaro movement encourages people to share their stories and assures them support in cases where they have been wronged.

“It is a subject very close to me. I thought I should start creating some awareness on the subject,” Mailk was quoted saying.

“When I started talking about this to people, I realised that almost every woman has been a victim of harassment — be it verbal, physical or emotional. Luckily, we’ve got all these strong women on-board,” she added.

The actor-director also shared that while working on this project, she and associates realised that “there are very few laws with regards to harassment in Pakistan”, and that the “awareness level” among people is “minimal”.

Explaining the difference between #MeToo movement and #InkaarKaro, Malik said: “#MeToo is about combining the voices of the victims – the ones who’ve shared similar ordeals of sexual misconduct. With #InkaarKaro, we want women to realise that they don’t have to be victims. They have the power and the voice to say no.”

Popular actor-model Zhalay Sarhadi is one among many others who have endorsed this movement. She said it was important to have conversation with women who have faced sexual harassment and educate them “that it’s not their fault”.
