New Delhi: As the stand-off between India and China on the western sector of the Line of Actual Control (LAC) nears its third year, the Army released photos and videos of soldiers playing cricket in Eastern Ladakh and patrolling the Galwan Valley on horses and ponies.

The Leh-based 14 Corps, also known as the Fire and Fury Corps Friday, tweeted pictures of army personnel playing cricket in “extreme high altitude area in Sub zero temperatures with full enthusiasm and zeal”, adding “we make the impossible possible”.

While the Army remained tight-lipped about the exact location where the cricket match is being played, defence sources said it was in Tantgse in Eastern Ladakh. From the pictures, one can make out a batting pitch made of carpet to even out the bounce in the hilly terrain.

Videos of officers and other Army personnel carrying out patrols have also come out on social media. The Army had reportedly  also recently conducted a half-marathon over the frozen Pangong-Tso for its soldiers.

Sources said the patrolling was conducted in the Galwan Valley outside the buffer zone that was created following the disengagement there in 2020 following a bloody clash.

The videos and pictures comes just days after External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar met his new Chinese counterpart, Qin Gang, in New Delhi on the sidelines of the G-20 foreign ministers meeting. Jaishankar had said that India and China’s relations were “abnormal.”

He had said that bilateral ties cannot be normal until the differences that emerged due to the clashes in June 2020 are resolved. The 18th round of Corps Commander level talks are expected to be held later this month.

After the 17th round of Corps Commander-level talks between India and China in December 2022, the stalemate between the two sides continued. As ThePrint reported, there was a failure “to achieve any breakthrough over the issue of de-escalation and strategically important Depsang Plains.”

In September 2022, a breakthrough had been achieved via disengagement in Gogra Heights and Hot Springs area near Patrolling Point 15 in Eastern Ladakh.
