New Delhi: Defence Minister Rajnath Singh met his Chinese counterpart General Wei Fenghe in Russia Friday, marking the first direct face-to-face talks between the political leadership in New Delhi and Beijing since border tensions began early May.

At the meeting, sought by China, India is believed to have stressed the need to maintain peace and calm along the borders. The meeting began at 9.30 pm IST and lasted for two hours 20 minutes. More details about the discussions between the two sides are yet awaited.

This is the first high-level political meeting that has taken place between India and China ever since tensions broke out in May. It is a positive development,” a source in the defence and security establishment said.

Both sides, sources added, will inform their higher leadership about the finer details of the talks, which aim to bring down tensions at the Line of Actual Control (LAC).

Throughout its talks with China, India has held its ground that tensions at the border can only be resolved if status quo ante is achieved, that is, if soldiers of the People’s Liberation Army (PLA) return to the positions they held in April.

Singh is in Russia to attend a meeting of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO), a multilateral grouping that includes New Delhi, Moscow, Beijing, Islamabad and some other Asian states. External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar is also expected to meet his Chinese counterpart Wang Yi in Russia next week.

While the multiple rounds of military talks between India and China over the past few months (at the level of Lt Gen and below) have taken place in person, diplomatic dialogue has been restricted to video conferences on account of the Covid-19 pandemic.

Situation at border

Beginning May, China moved thousands of soldiers and equipment near the LAC and even intruded into Indian territory at Pangong Tso, Galwan Valley, Hot Springs Area, Gogra Post and Depsang Plains.

While the Chinese have withdrawn from the Indian territory of Galwan Valley, they remain in strength at other places.

India, too, has gone in for mirror deployment and inducted over 30,000 additional troops and equipment at eastern Ladakh. India has put all the three services – Army, Navy and IAF – on full operational alert.

Over the last weekend, India outflanked the Chinese troops and captured heights near the southern bank of the Pangong Tso and now dominates the territory.

  1. I am happy that the Russians have not murdered Rajnath Singh, just as they murdered Lalbahadur Shastri, who also had gone to erstwhile USSR seeking peace.

  2. Chinese troops continue their attempt to change status quo in eastern Ladakh on the night of 29 to 31 August 2020 thwarted by alert and competent Indian army and further developments.
According to news reports , Chinese troops , carried out provocative military movements on the southern bank of Pangong Tso Lake in eastern Ladakh on the night of 29/30 August 2020. Indian alert troops took timely appropriate measures , thwarting the attempt. While talks to settle past issues are continuing at army Commanders level , the present attempt by Chinese troops to transgress on the night of 29/30 August , which was thwarted by alert Indian army , is considered a new provocation. Indian army were able to pre-empt the attempt and were successful in foiling Chinese troops bid to change the status quo at the new spot in the southern bank of Pangong Tso Lake. In this context , it may be apt to share with readers this Vedic astrology writer’s one of predictive alerts through article -“ Predictions for coming year 2020 by kushal kumar” – published last year 2019 on 10 October , 2019 at One of the predictive alerts for July to October ( November) 2020 in relation to India reads like this :-
“ The second half of the year from July to October/November looks to be addressing the setbacks or delay of the past , particularly those of the first half. …………………………………..The obstructive forces may weaken to some extent. It seems the said period of second half can boost up the ambitious side of the nation”. It may be added that the predictive alerts in article of 10 October , 2019 had carried one interesting hint , which had said :- “ danger can come via sea”. HP-Uttarakhand-J&K were also indicated for quake-like something during April –June or later in 2020. It may be observed that centre of focus continues to be , whether in April-June or in August , a lake looking -like a sea to the viewer, known as Pangong Tso Lake , said to be 150 kms long dunning through Indian territory passing over to China.
A recent article of this writer – “ Planetary configuration in August -September 2020 suggest something historic , something rare” – published at on 20 July , 2020 also indicates some interesting inputs in relation to war-like or hostile happenings involving vulnerable countries across the globe. The dates 27 to 29 in August , 2020 were indicated for more care and appropriate strategy. And the incident in southern bank of Pangong Tso Lake has taken place on the night of 29/30 August 2020. The Chinese troops are reported to be continuing the attempt after 29/30 night August. And this writer’s predictive alert in the said article of 20 July 2020 has said :- “August-September , particularly 10 August to 11 September , in present year 2020 appear something loaded with mini-war , if not full-fledged war somewhere across the globe in vulnerable countries between two camps – one camp claiming to be or advocating social-cum-universal way of life while the other one appears to be having expansionist tones”.
Update on 5 September , 2020 is that at the request of Chinese Defence Minister in Moscow , a meeting of Defence Ministers of China and India has taken place on the sidelines of a key Shanghai Cooperation Organisation ( SCO ) meet in Moscow on 4 September. The meeting is aimed at discussing ways to de-escalate the border tension in Ladakh between the two countries. However , this development appears to be precisely closer to the prediction of this writer in the article of 20 July 2020 wherein the expansionist camp was to come forward to compromise or settlement . And period of time from 10 August to 10 September in 2020 with 6 to 8 September was also indicated in that regard.
