When violence erupted in Assam last week over the Citizenship Amendment Act, Indian Army was instantly deployed, with the DGP saying it was just 'for show'.
This year, Jawan and The Kerala Story both won National Awards. The irony was impossible to miss. One critiqued the system, the other endorsed its narratives. The dichotomy says more about India’s cultural schizophrenia than any film review ever could.

This world is being restructured and redrawn by one man, and what’s his power? It’s not his formidable military. It’s trade. With China, it turned on him.
There is serious problem with you if you think General Naravane statement is off the mark, An Army general has to speak on pok. Don’t talk like a paki stooge here you fake Desai.
Thankfully the Army Chief does not need to do anything You & your biased boss says… In other words he ‘mustn’ t’ do what you want. Think for a moment… Just a moment…. Maybe… & its maybe….. The Army Chief is wiser than You & your boss? Is it possible? Your boss had once told the country that army was marching on Delhi to overthrow Maunmohan as PM. Thats how strategic thinking You guys are!
You are imagining a problem where none exists. India has the most apolitical army. Think of Pakistan and China when you write about politicalization of armed forces. Neither General Rawat nor General Narvane has made any statement which is remotely connected with domestic politics. Why do you suspect politicalization of army? Just because last four years, the opposition parties have been targeting General Rawat? Media has manufactured many crises such as “intolerance”, objections to annulling of Article 370, or opposition to CAA or NRC. So-called politicalization of armed forces is another such manufactured issues. On the other hand, commanding officers must possess thorough understanding of international relations, especially in the neighbourhood of India.
‘Neither General Rawat nor General Naravane has made any statement which is remotely connected with domestic politics.’- you are dead wrong! Both these generals are politicised! They both have made statements to please their civilian bosses! Upon being appointed as the Army Chief, General Naravane boasted that he was ready to attack PoK, TO PLEASE HIS CIVILIAN BOSSES AND ANTI-PAKISTAN GALLERY! General Rawat had done the same when he was the Army Chief. Perhaps, because he was thus pleasing his civilian bosses that he is made the CDS! Even some other high army officers have raised their voices against such political statements. The military is not FULLY politicised, but like everything else, it is also being politicised.
