The Supreme Court is right about Delhi’s Odd-Even vehicle rationing. It’s a cosmetic measure, not a solution. There is no empirical evidence that it has improved the capital’s air quality. CM Arvind Kejriwal needn’t extend it and continue the charade. It’s time Centre and states look for real solutions instead.

  1. Too complex an issue for Odd – Even to solve, although fewer cars on the road would certainly cut emissions substantially. What about thermal power plants, along with seasonal burning of crop residue. 2. I would say using personal transport, in the absence of equally convenient public transport, is part of the fundamental right of earning a livelihood. Citizens cannot be left stranded three days a week. 3. The government – a composite entity of the Centre and the concerned states – should not have allowed things to come to this pass. Now that they have, not cede the initiative to the apex court. It will take a few years, other countries have come out of this tunnel.
